Headaches....

Okay sorry for the lack of posting.. I seriously have had a horrible week. I get an insanely bad headache daily. I swear.. I wake up with it and I go to bed with it. Todays is terrible and I have had ENOUGH!! I have struggled with headaches all of my life and have seen a few general doctors for it but it never goes anywhere. I swear they all tell me to get my eyes checked and thats it. So questions... does anyone know what kind of a doctor I would call for this kind of thing? Do any of you get them really bad? If so, what medication do you take that you have found to work?

Seriously.. I need some help. I can't take this anymore!!

I would try a Neurologist. You probably get your teeth cleaned every 6 months but sometimes a cavity or other problem with the teeth or jaw can give you headaches.

My husband's co-worker was having the same problem and his doctor told him that when you take tylenol & Ibuprofen they can give you rebound headaches. I was having the same problem with headaches and I quit taking tylenol & ibuprofen and it has seemed to help. Now if I get a really bad headache I will take half a unisom and sleep it off.

Good Luck Tara headaches are such a pain!

I was going say see a Neurologist too. I went to my family doctor today because I have high blood pressure and need to be on medication for it but one question he asked me was if I get headaches regularly.. just a thought. I hope you figure it out. Headaches are no fun.

I know that some girls get super bad migraines that are related to that fun "girly" time of the month. They have special medication for them too. Although I do hear it a lot like everyone else said and it being related to your teeth somehow. I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry if this is weird but you don't know me but I love looking at your cute blog! I also get headaches ALOT. I went to a neruologist and they ended up doing a few MRI's and found I had a pituitary tumor (its not as scary as it sounds). I had it removed 6 years ago but still get them all the time. I was put on Topamax but it KILLED my stomach so I just keep taking Excedrine when I get them. I do get a really bad one right before Aunt Flow comes to though!

I would highly reccommend seeing a Chiropractor. I had headaches about 4-5 times a week that would originate from the base of my head where it connects to my neck. Now after seeing a chiropractor I have them maybe once a month. If your headache is mostly behind your eyes or your forehead, it could be sinus problems. Rebound headaches from Tylenol or Ibuprofen are possible but usually only if you are misusing or overdosing, same with caffeine. It is a good recommendation to see your regular doctor first if headaches are more than 2-3 times a week but I would try a chiropractor. The one I see is a really great guy in Herriman. His practice is called Thompson Family Chiropractic off 134th. Its worth a try! Good luck!

Massage Massage Massage. Chiropracters will only fix temp, a massage will help with long term fix. I think most headaches come from tight muscles and not enough blood flow is getting to the brain. I work on many people that say they get the worse headaches and with in one massage their headache will be gone. Because after the massage it increases blood flow! I say go get a great Neck, shoulder, head massage. :@)

i've had headaches and migraines my whole life too- sucky! there is a headache clinic in west valley city- i'll see if i can find the name of it. i haven't been there yet cuz i wanted to find out what my insurance would do with it.

i've been checked out and checked out and the only other thing i've been told by my docs is that the next step is a cat scan to make sure i don't have a brain tumor (duh. i know that's not it, losers.)

they also found a minor imbalance in some of my hormones, but there's no way to know whether that's really contributing to headaches or not...

headaches suck.

I have had migraines all my life. There is the possibility of it being hereditary as well. I have taken Midrin and Imitrex (separately) when it comes to medication. They are specifically for migraines. I get them so bad I have to go to the hospital and sometimes get a shot of painkillers. Either way though, you will definitely want to see a Neurologist because not only will they look at the brain but also at the veins and arteries because when those swell and constrict, it causes a headache or migraine. They will check your blood pressure, hormones, if they can't find anything with the basics then they will consider an MRI which shows the blood flow and anatomical make up of the brain.

I just happened upon your blog. I hope you don't mind me commenting. I worked for a cardiologist before I had my son. One thing that we saw a lot was people who have what's called a PFO. It's basically a small hole in the heart. Most people don't ever have symptoms but some suffer from migraines. They are actually really common. I think about 1 in 5 people have them, but like I said, most people don't even know they have it. You should research a little and see if that could possibly be what you have. It's a pretty easy fix if you do have a PFO. I think it can even be an out-patient procedure. Good luck! Headaches are the worst!

I haven't had an issue with headaches and it sure sounds like lots of people who've commented know lots more than I could offer. But I'll put your name on the prayer roll this week!

Most headaches come from dehydration. You should be drinking about 2 1/2 quarts a day of water. If you drink any pop or sugary drinks you need to be drinking even more water than that. Pepperment is really really good for headaches (the essential oil) anyway if you want more info on that just email me and I would be happy to help you out. My mother in law does a lot of natural things so again let me know if you want me to talk to her..

tara, when i saw a cardiologist he also mentioned a pfo and I had to do all sorts of MRI's, stress tests and get some ultrasounds on my heart etc. BUT luckily there was nothing abnormal. I wouldn't worry that you have a tumor or a pfo, really...migraines are very common especially during cold season (i know you have had a cold the past week or so, right?) Also rebound headaches are VERY common if you use lots of over the counter medicine, so try using natural remedies, that is what I had to do (I only take migraine medicine when my migraines are VERY bad and I can only take it a couple of times a week). It could also be a caffeine headache...does your nutritionist have you on any sort of supplements or have you been drinking soda? I read a study once that CHUGGING (literally) a thing of gatorade helps migraines go away (probably because of the electrolytes)...that has helped for me a couple of times but staying hydrated really is the key. I'm sorry you've had such bad headaches, it seems a lot of people have been having migraines lately. boo. headaches are NO fun. ohhhhh i have a brilliant idea--let's go to the spa and get massages....that should help, right? =)

Hi Tara- Sorry you have headaches! They are a big problem in my family and extended family. I would start taking a look at your diet. My dad and my sister have figured out that every time they eat something with MSG in it (Monosodium Glutimate) they will get a Migraine the next day. Food can play a major roll. MSG allergies are sooo common and a lot of people don't even realize it. Good luck!
